Chic Gamine, the charming Winnipeg/Montreal-based vocal quintet, has been serenading its audiences since the summer of 2007. By complete coincidence, the group is composed of the 5 "A's": singers Ariane Jean, Andrina Turenne, Alexa Dirks, Annick Brémault and drummer and percussionist Alexandre Sacha Daoud. With a solo percussionist as their main musical support, Chic Gamine use their voices as instruments, effortlessly launching into intricate string arrangements, bass-heavy rhythm sections and lush harmonies. Their first album won a 2008 Juno Award as Canada's best Roots & Traditional Album of the Year.
About the Festival:
This summer, the Wil-Mar Neighborhood Center will host the spectacular La Fête de Marquette au Boulevard Baldwin. The festival has been expanded to four days July 9th - 12th and will return to the large central square-like parking lot at 50 S. Baldwin St.
La Fête de Marquette coincides with Bastille Day, the French national holiday. The celebration will provide many opportunities to become immersed in French culture with food, arts, crafts and - especially - music. The event will host musicians from the French-speaking world including performers from North Africa, Haiti, Cape Verde, Quebec, Manitoba and France throughout the weekend and performers with New Orleans/Cajun/Zydeco roots primarily on Sunday. Event organizers anticipate attracting thousands to this unique, free-to-all community event.
