Chestnut Hill College Writing Program Hosts Human Trafficking Lecture December 1, 2010

Mary Beth Hamm, SSJ, social justice coordinator for the Sisters of Saint Joseph will present the lecture, “Faces and Facets of Human Trafficking” on Wednesday, December 1 at 2 p.m. in the Social Room, Fournier Hall. The lecture is sponsored by the writing program at the College.

Sister Mary Beth Hamm’s lecture will help to spread awareness about human trafficking, a modern-day form of slavery and the second largest and fastest growing criminal industry in the world. Human trafficking recruits, abducts, and sells men, women, and children who are then forced into slave conditions for forced labor.

Mary Beth Hamm, SSJ is the social justice coordinator for the Sisters of Saint Joseph. She serves as staff to congregational leadership, participates in the work of the SSJ Commission for Justice, coordinates the congregation’s socially responsible investment activities, and engages the congregation on various justice issues including sustainability, climate change, and care for earth. Sister Mary Beth is also a member of the Philadelphia Area Coalition for Justice and Peace, the Sisters of Saint Joseph International Justice Team, and the Philadelphia Area Coalition for Responsible Investments as well as other local and national coalitions. She is a board member of NETWORK, a national Catholic social justice lobby, and Change for Global Change, a non-profit organization that provides grants for sustainability projects.
