Chestnut Hill College will celebrate the unveiling of The Grackle, the student literary magazine of the College with a special event on Tuesday, April 13, 2010 from 7-8:30 p.m. in the Social Room of Fournier Hall. Chestnut Hill College is located at 9601 Germantown Avenue in Philadelphia.
The unveiling of this year’s Grackle will be celebrated with student authors reading their pieces published in this year’s edition, free copies of the Grackle, and refreshments.
The Grackle, which has expanded within the past three years at the College, showcases student artwork, poetry, and short stories. Named after the gregarious perching bird native to this area that was found on campus in the thirties, the Grackle was published in 1930 as a literary magazine and yearbook, becoming solely a literary magazine after 1945. The Grackle stopped publication after 1970, recently being revived by students and faculty at the College in 2007. The National Scholastic Press Association awarded The Grackle All-Catholic Honors 11 times and All-American Honors 10 times from 1931-1942.
The event is free and open to the public. For more information, please contact Keely McCarthy, Ph.D., associate professor of English and coordinator of the writing program at mccarthyk@chc.edu or 215.753.3627.
