The Chestnut Hill College Music Department presents the musical, “Songs for a New World” on Friday, April 16, 2010 at 8 p.m., Saturday, April 17, 2010 at 8 p.m. and Sunday, April 18, 2010 at 2:00 p.m. in the College Auditorium located at 9601 Germantown Avenue in Philadelphia.
“Songs for a New World” is a musical production composed by Jason Robert Brown in 1995. The show is a mix between a musical and a revue because it does not have a distinct plot, and does not have any distinct characters. The songs in the production are influenced by a large range of music, including jazz, gospel, pop and classical music.
Jason Robert Brown is an American musical theatre composer and lyricist, whose music often fuses pop-rock with theatrical lyrics. Brown grew up in the suburbs of New York City studying music and attended the Eastman School of Music and the French Woods Festival of the Performing Arts.
