Honolulu, Hawaii 33333

Honolulu’s Cherry Blossom search is on! Only creative and flamboyant team players need apply to join Oahu’s favorite burlesque troupe, Cherry Blossom Cabaret.
Cherry Blossom Cabaret will be auditioning in two categories:
Intern and Dance Understudy
Interns:
We are looking for dancers, aerialists, singers and other specialty acts that would like to learn how to incorporate burlesque (the art of tease) into their performance art. We are not seeking straight burlesque teasers at this time.
Dance Understudy:
We are also auditioning dance understudies for group choreography only. Dance understudies study all group numbers and are able to sub for principal dancers when they are unavailable to perform, or will be used in larger group routines.
You may audition for a dance understudy position, internship or both. Preference will be given to those auditioning for both.
Auditions:
Date: Sunday, May 1, 2011 Noon-2pm. Appointment required, no walk-ins.
Contact: cherryblossomcabaret@gmail.com to make an appointment
Location: TBD
All performers are required to audition with a 3-4 minute number. If you are auditioning for the understudy position you will also be taught a piece of choreography that you will be part of your audition. Please bring a headshot (does not need to be professional), fill out the questionnaire (will be sent after you make your appointment), and come ready to perform. Please bring your music burned as an AUDIO CD or your own MP3 Player to connect to our stereo system.

What is Burlesque?
Burlesque means “in an upside down style,” turning social norms head over heels. It was a form of musical comedy popular from about 1840 through the 1960s. Performances in the early years were parodies performed primarily for the middle and lower classes of society in which actors would poke fun at the social habits of the upper class. In the late 1860s burlesque was brought to America, it focused on theatrical spoofs featuring women playing men’s roles wearing costumes considered revealing for the time. Vaudeville, cabaret, striptease, the follies of the twenties and thirties, and the girlie shows of the forties and fifties, all have their roots in burlesque
The Neo-burlesque revival exploded in the early 1990s in Los Angeles and New York City, and the art form is continuing to grow in different varieties from classy to raunchy, kitschy to political, gender bending to straight laced tease, and a whole lot more. Since 2006, CBC has been keeping the burlesque revival alive in Honolulu by captivating, entertaining and enticing audiences island wide. Come to a show and see why Honolulu loves CBC.
