Dj'ing since 1964 in Paris, Cheb I Sabbah is a key figure in the history of the world/electronic fusion sound, and of the art of DJ'ing itself. He recently returned to his native North Africa to gather the raw material for his most ambitious project to date, La Kahena, featuring all women singers.

Featuring ex-members of Spearhead and Hamsa Lila, The 14 members of Berkeley's ALBINO! are an ass-inspiriting percussive engine informed by Fela Kuti and brought up to date with a mash of spacey global inflections (think of Herbie's Headhunters shanghaied in West Africa, and you'll be up to speed).

Local Afrobeat heavyweights Jujuba feature Nojeem Lassisi, who ranks among the world's elite talking drum players, and has toured and appeared on numerous recordings with King Sunny Ade. Jujuba delivers an infectious, danceable and funky style of Nigerian Afrobeat and Juju music. Having received critical acclaim based solely on their performances and Demo CD, we will celebrate the long-awaited release of their new CD.
