The principles of good versus evil are embodied in the fanciful tale of Prince Tamino as he proves his worthiness through tests of silence, fire and water. Tamino, with the "assistance" of Papageno, the charming and naive bird-catcher, remains faithful to Sarastro, High Priest of the Sacred Order, to win the love of Pamina, daughter of the Queen of the Night. The light of goodness dispels the evil of the darkness. 'The Magic Flute' was Mozart's final opera. Its mix of fantasy, philosophy and Masonic rituals has made it a favorite since its premiere in Vienna in 1791. It includes spoken dialogue and singing.
