***?Get Etta Betta? - A Celebration of a Life of the Blues
From:
Bill Wilson, Director, CoMMA/Morganton - http://www.ci.morganton.nc.us/Morganton_Municipal_Auditorium/morganton_municipal_auditorium.html
and
Jim Jervis - VP of the Greater Charlotte Entertainment Cartel and the Charlotte Blues Society

Etta Baker is a cultural treasure of North Carolina and its music. She has lived in Morganton her entire 90+ years. While the trend of the 20th century Appalachian music was focused on mountain, traditional, and bluegrass, Etta stuck with her roots ? the Blues. Not charging star contract prices for her performances, she was never heavily marketed or commercialized as an artist. The music Etta plays tells stories, and there are volumes. Although she has performed for presidents and at Carnegie Hall, she remains, indeed and unfortunately, one of the best kept secrets in our state. Talk to Taj Mahal, Bonnie Raitt, Doc Watson, and more, and they all will tell you ?Etta stories??many consider her one of a kind, the best of the best, and they just ain?t making ?em like that anymore. As of this writing, Etta?s health is not the best?nor are her finances. She needs help, and locally a few ?friends and fans? are attempting to put together a major fundraiser in April, probably April 9, of this year to help with her mounting medical bills and living expenses. And we are asking for your help?.Please.

If you have contacts or even ideas of name artists who would like to participate on a low or no fee basis, please contact Bill or Jim immediately. Plans are for all proceeds to go into a fund which will help Etta with her continuing and rising needs. ?Get Etta Betta? is the working title, and this is just the beginning. I will keep you posted as plans progress. Please contact Bill via email at comma_d@ci.morganton.nc.us or at CoMMA, 800-939-7469, - or Jim at cell: 704-996-4378; office: 803-802-0004, ext 230 if you would like to be a part of this effort. Thank you for your consideration, concern, and support.

Also, if you would like to make a tax-deductible contribution, please write a check to:
Dry Ridge Productions
and send it to: Dry Ridge Productions, P.O. Box 53,
Simpsonville SC 29681
Dry Ridge Productions is a 501(c)(3) non-profit corporation tax ID #
58-2357291
100% of funds collected will be sent in a check to Etta Baker to help defer her growing medical and other aging-related expenses.

***The HURLEY INTERNATIONAL PRESENTS: SUB CITY TAKE ACTION TOUR participated in a press conference on Capitol Hill February 2 to kick off the fifth annual TAKE ACTION tour and support the launch of the new Youth America Hotline! (YAH!) 1-877-YOUTHLINE (1-877-968-8454). Although the tour will not be coming into our area, you can help support the National Hopeline Network (1-800-SUICIDE), a suicide prevention and crisis hotline, and the Youth America Hotline! 1-877-YOUTHLINE (1-877-968-8454), a peer-to-peer line pairing youth callers with youth crisis workers in their area, by purchasing the TAKE ACTION! VOL. 4 two-disc compilation CD, recently released on Sub City Records, a division of Hopeless Records (2 CDs, over 41 tracks - for only $3.99!) Over the past four years, the TAKE ACTION TOUR and CD compilations have raised over $170,000 for the National Hopeline Network. Since its inception, Sub City Records has raised over $500,000 for multiple charities. http://www.takeactiontour.com/index.html
