The Jackson Symphony Orchestra will pay homage to Latin-American music and composers 3 p.m. on Sunday, April 5 when it presents the third concert in the 2008-2009 Chamber Music Series. Concert at the Jackson Symphony Hall, 215 W. Michigan Ave., downtown Jackson, MI and will include chamber works, as well as two chamber ensemble pieces conducted by Nathaniel Parker.
First on the program will be music of the great Argentine tango composer Astor Piazzolla. His famous "Histoire du Tango" will be performed by Marissa Olin, flute, and Joel Frisch, marimba; both are doctoral students in music performance at MSU. "Last Round" will follow.
Oboist Rachel Lueck, JSO principal clarinetist Christopher Kirkpatrick, and bassoonist Ryan Romine will perform the exciting "Trio" by Brazilian composer Heitor Villa-Lobos. The most important Brazilian composer of the 20th century, Villa-Lobos is perhaps best known for his series of Bachianas brasileiras compositions.
The second half of the concert will include a mixed chamber ensemble composition called Homage to Federico Garcia Lorca, by Mexican composer Silvestre Revueltas.
