This workshop will explore ten case scenarios of challenges faced in health and social care studies drawn from the real life experience of the workshop facilitators. These challenges pertain to common
pitfalls that can be faced by researchers undertaking research with members of the public in a variety of roles - from advisor to co-researcher.
Community engagement and service user involvement is high on the University's agenda and this workshop will help you gain insight into what can go wrong and how it may be prevented or managed successfully in a research context.
If you have previously or intend to work with the public in future research, then this workshop is a must. You don't need a health or social care research background as the principles we will discuss
are transferable.
The facilitators are very experienced participatory researchers and the lead facilitator is a member of INVOLVE (Department of Health Advisory Group on user Involvement in research), North West Area User Involvement Advisor on the NIHR Research Design Service and sits on the NW Users Research Advisory group. Both have experience of leading community engagement in research funded by
ESRC, NIHR and Big Lottery etc.
