Chai and Why?: Explosions in the Cosmos: The Life and Death of Stars September 4, 2010

Chai and Why? is a science public outreach event done by the Tata Institute of Fundamental Research (TIFR) along with Prithvi Theatre. Chai and Why? is held on the first Sunday of every month.

The speaker this Sunday is Sayan Chakraborti. He is also a co-discoverer of a new class of supernovae.

Massive stars end their lives in violent cosmic explosions like Supernovae or Gamma Ray Bursts, which shine brighter than a billion suns! We'll outline the history of observations of such explosions in the cosmos and humanity's attempts at making sense of such amazing events. Join us as we discuss the short but brilliant careers of such massive stars.
