Claremont Graduate University’s 19th Annual Kingsley and Kate Tufts Poetry Awards ceremony will be held at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday, April 28 at Garrison Theatre in Claremont. The ceremony will feature poetry readings by the winners, Chase Twichell and Atsuro Riley, followed by a book signing. There will be a ticketed celebration dinner immediately after the ceremony.
Claremont Graduate University awards two prizes for poetry each year, The Kingsley Tufts Award ($100,000) and The Kate Tufts Discovery Award ($10,000.) CGU’s Kingsley Tufts Poetry Award is the largest monetary prize in the nation for a mid-career poet. Former Kingsley Tufts Award winners include Robert Wrigley, Tom Sleigh, Linda Gregerson, Matthea Harvey, D.A. Powell and Yusef Komunyakaa. Past ceremony hosts and presenters have included Kathy Bates and Leonard Nimoy.
