On May 7 and 13, established and emerging local talent will come together for an evening of choral works by contemporary New York composers in L?Invitation au Voyage.
Conducted by Artistic Director Kristina Boerger, the 28 voices of the Cerddorion Vocal Ensemble will perform the premiere of Robert Dennis?s Morning Group I, a brilliantly textured piece uniting three poems that treat the subject of morning in vastly different ways. Jonathan Swift?s ?A Description of Morning? is a satirical picture of London at dawn; ?Ya cantan los Gallos? is a delicious 15th-century Spanish love poem which illustrates that the arrival of morning is not always welcomed; and William Blake?s ?Morning? offers an expression of hope for the promise a new day brings.
To complement the Dennis premiere, the concert program will feature works from Patrick Castillo, John Corigliano, Julie Dolphin, Matthew Harris, Ned Rorem and Martha Sullivan.
L?Invitation au Voyage will be performed on Sunday, May 7 at 4 P.M. at the Oratory Church of St. Boniface (on the Metro Tech campus, at Willoughby and Duffield Streets, Brooklyn) and on Saturday, May 13 at 8 P.M. at the Church of St. Luke in the Fields (487 Hudson Street, south of Christopher Street, Manhattan). General admission: $20. Students/Seniors: $15. For information: (212) 260-1498 or www.cerddorion.net.
