The interaction of four Scottish couples is at the heart of the astonishingly beautiful 1997 R-rated drama The Winter Guest, to be presented as part of the Celtic Film Series at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, January 9 in the Williamsburg Library Theatre, 515 Scotland Street. The film is free of charge and reservations are not needed. For more information on the series contact the library at (757) 259-4070 or visit www.wrl.org
Recently widowed photographer Frances (Academy Award winner Emma Thompson) lives with her increasingly distant son and finds her life radically changed with the arrival of her mother, Elspeth (Phyllida Law, Thompsons real-life mother). In a remote Scottish village, this family and the people around them are forever changed on the coldest day of the year as hearts begin to melt.
The Library presents the Celtic Film Series in cooperation with the local chapters of the St. Andrew Society and the Ladies Ancient Order of Hibernians. The series explores the history, drama and quirky humor of films made in or about Scotland and Ireland.
