Based on the Tony-award winning stage play by Brian Friel, this film is set in the small rural village of Ballybog, Ireland in 1936. It tells the story of five unmarried sisters who discover their recently returned from Africa missionary brother (Michael Gambon) is no longer the stoic man they once knew. Cavorting with African tribesmen has unleashed a wild spirit that threatens his place in the community as well as the family's. Also stars Meryl Streep.
