Edmonds Community College celebrates Earth Month. Join us at events across campus focused on sustainability April 8-May 15. We’re committed to thinking, teaching, and living green. Events begin with the Earth Month Lecture: Conscious Consumerism, 7:30 p.m., Thurs., April 8, Black Box Theatre. Marketing firm owner Marty McDonald presents “Conscious Consumerism: Taking Control in an Out of Control Market.”

Earth Month Lecture: Wild Foods, 12:30 p.m., April 19, Triton Union 202. Writer Langdon Cook presents “Wild Foods and Foraging in the Pacific Northwest: From Woods to Plate.”
Earth Week Menu, 11:30 a.m.-1 p.m., April 19-22, College Café. Culinary Arts students offer us a yummy menu focused on local and organic foods.
Yogafit, 11 a.m.-noon, April 20, Courtyard or (if rain) Snoqualmie 201. Physical education instructor Megan Toney leads a midday fitness session.
Earth Month Lecture: Eating Locally, 12:30-1:30 p.m., April 20, Brier 244. Farmer Linda Neunzig, Snohomish County Agriculture Project Coordinator and owner of Ninety Farms in Arlington, presents “Eating Locally & Organically.”
Earth Day Fair, 11 a.m.-2 p.m., April 22, Brier Student Center. Celebrate sustainability. Learn about green programs at Edmonds CC, tour our new vegetable garden, and don’t miss the 12 p.m. student Trashion show, fashion made of recycled materials. Across campus at the Center for Families, at 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. children will release ladybugs as part of our green pest management program.
Earth Month Lecture: Sustainable Business, 12:30-1:30 p.m., April 22, Brier 244. Joseph Whinney, the founder of an organic and fair trade chocolate company in Seattle, presents “Theo Chocolate…Socially Responsible and Sustainable.”
Film: Food, Inc., 12:30-2:30 p.m., April 30, Meadowdale 124. See how our food is produced and distributed, then discuss healthy food choices with nutrition educator Leika Suzumura of PCC Markets.
Gold Park Service and Celebration, 10 a.m.-2 p.m., April 24. Help LEAF School students and the City of Lynnwood finish a native plant garden in the park and then celebrate with refreshments.
Earth Month Lecture: Environment & Social Justice, 12:30-1:30 p.m., April 27, Snohomish 304A. Millie Piazza, Environmental Justice Coordinator at the Washington State Department of Ecology, presents “The Interplay between the Environment & Social Justice.”
Earth Month Lecture: Dirt, 12:30 p.m., April 28, campus theater. David Montgomery, author of “Dirt: The Erosion of Civilizations,” makes the case that our planet is eroding.
Water Awareness Week May 3-7, look for events, including a lecture about our oceans 12:30 p.m., May 4, in Triton Union by Jen Kingfisher of the Port Townsend Marine Science Center.
Earth Month Lecture: Rain Gardening, 12:30-1:30 p.m., April 28, Brier 244. Snohomish County Master Gardener Duane Farmen talks about creating gardens, which help reduce the amount of storm water and pollutants in our waters.
Earth Month Lecture: Living Simply, 1:30-3:30 p.m., May 7, Snohomish 338. Cecile Andrews, author of “Slow Is Beautiful: New Visions of Community, Leisure,” redefines “the good life” to bring joy and meaning to daily activity.
Sustainability Around the World Presentations & Panel, 3 p.m., May 11, Triton Union. Join our international students to hear firsthand how countries around the world are addressing environmental challenges.
Take action this Earth Month:
• Use alternative transportation. Anyone who walks, bikes, or takes the bus to the college during Earth Month may enter our weekly drawings for prizes.
• Try green crafting. Learn how to make your own reusable tote out of plastic bags, 12-1 p.m., Tuesdays, Clearview 120.
• Recycle your shoes. Take your worn out athletic shoes to the Reuse-A-Shoe Recycling station in Brier Hall, 8 a.m.-5 p.m., Mon.-Fri. Keep stuff out of our landfills!
• Get informed. Visit the library for more information about Earth Month, sustainability, and the environment. See www.edcc.edu/library for hours.
