July 4 was perhaps the most celebrated day in 19th century America. Join us at the home of Dr. J.S. Bratton for historic readings, militia muster, firearms and cooking demonstrations and stories from slaves who were denied their own independence. Todd Harrington, wet-plate collodion photographer, will demonstrate early photography, staging images to capture the celebration. Meet veterans of World War II, dressed in period clothing to represent veterans of the Revolutionary War. The Friends of Historic Brattonsville will be selling hot dogs, barbecue, drinks and baked goods.
