This exhibition celebrates 100 years of service, tradition and success of the nation's first African American sorority. Founded in 1908 at Howard University, the exhibit depicts milestones in Alpha Kappa Alpha history, including civil rights and political efforts in collaboration with the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) and the American Council on Human Rights; education initiatives with national education organizations and through its signature program, the Ivy Reading Academy; and efforts to increase AIDS awareness and research with local and global health agencies.
