On Friday, May 2, the de Young Museum presents an evening filled with cultural performances and art activities. Celebrate the opening of Jane Hammond: Paper Work, on view in the Anderson Gallery. For nearly two decades, Jane Hammond has been using a fixed lexicon of 276 borrowed images to create paintings and works on paper, both flat and three-dimensional, that layer prints, photocopies, and photographs with collage and handwork. Hammond will give a lecture about her work this Friday in the Koret Auditorium, 6:30 pm. Experience spectacular performances by Velocity Circus led by a ringmaster on roller skates along with a surreal cast of characters whose performances are inspired by Hammond’s work. In conjunction with the performances, a Hammond-inspired film will be projected in the Piazzoni Murals Room while fortune-tellers and acrobats mingle with visitors in Wilsey Court, 6:30–8:30 pm. In the art activity on May 2, visitors can create mixed-media scrapbook pages inspired by works in Jane Hammond: Paper Work. There are docent tours of Gilbert & George each Friday at 7 pm, and dinner and drinks are available in the de Young Café.

Regular gallery admission prices apply on Friday nights. Admission includes access to all festivities including live music and interactive art projects.
