The New Year is a time filled with traditions. Join Westfield North County and the Westfield Family Program for Family Fun Days featuring “Cultural Traditions” - explore how other cultures celebrate the New Year and hear classic folktales from around the world.
On January 2 join us for story time with “Shanté Keys and the New Year's Peas” by Gail Piernas-Davenport and Marion Eldridge, and “Dragon Dancing” by Pierr Morgan and Carole Schaefer. Kids will celebrate the Chinese New Year (January 23) creating two fun crafts: a necklace that will bring them good luck in the New Year and a sequin dragon honoring the Year of the Dragon. Kids also will enjoy yummy fortune cookies and receive fun glitter tattoos.
January 16 will feature classic folktales with “Tikki Tikki Tembo” by Arlene Mosel and Blair Lent. If you don’t already know Tikki Tikki Tembo-no sa rembo-chari bari ruchi-pip peri pembo -- you certainly will soon. The second book, “May I Bring a Friend?” by Beatrice de Regniers and Beni Montresor, is a Caldecott-winning children’s book exploring the tradition of English tea. Children will enjoy a fun snack and face painting, and create cups to take home.
