September is National Alcohol and Drug Addiction Recovery Month. Celebrate Recovery will host a family picnic in the park event on September 12 in honor of the 20th anniversary of recovery month. The 2009 recovery month theme is: Join the Voices for Recovery - Together We LEARN, Together We HEAL.
Let us recognize that addiction is a disease, not a character flaw.
This event feature testimonies by folks in long-term recovery, music, a magician performance, food (free will offering), demonstration by artist Russell Irwin, playground and games for children, washers games, and lots of information regarding the disease of addiction and recovery options. Guest speakers include Brian Nieves - 98th District Representative and Mayor Richard (Dick) Stratman.
A substance use disorder does not discriminate against its victims based on age, race, gender, ethnicity, socio-economic status, or community. This disease controls people’s lives and has devastating effects on friends and families. Substance use disorders are one of the most deadly ailments, with one in four deaths each year attributed to alcohol, tobacco, or illicit drug use. Come to gain facts, information and see that freedom from the disease of addiction is real.
Come support those who have found freedom in recovery and help those who need to take the step of courage into recovery.
