Free Style Arts NYC
Families are invited to help create a gigantic group sculpture using recycled materials with artists from the NYC-based art collective, Free Style Arts Association. The Free Style educators work magic with everyday materials, transforming them into abstract art work, using crazy lines, shapes, and colors. Educators from The Science Museum of Long Island join in on the fun and will be bringing along some critters, maybe even a tortoise or a snake. They’ll also work with nets to explore organisms in the Museum’s ponds.
Also featured on Earth Day are family gallery tours of the museum’s current exhibition, AB-EX / RE-CON: Abstract Expressionism Reconsidered. Take the tour to check out how abstract expressionists employ elements and principles of art. The day’s activities will be documented and posted to the Museum’s Facebook page. Museum admission plus $8 per family materials fee. No reservations needed, but please bring along some plastic supermarket bags to contribute to the project. Weekend parking fee is $2 (members, free).
