Christmas Seals bring happy holiday memories for many families but some don't realize their first serious purpose began in 1907. That year, volunteer Emily Bissell created the decorative holiday seals to raise $3,000 to fight tuberculosis. Today, that fight and others to combat lung disease continue: Over 175,000 people in Hawaii have lung disease, and Hawaii is ranked #1 nationally for the incidence of TB, #2 for youth asthma prevalence and lung cancer is the #1 killer of men and women.
