Langston Hughes retained a strong affinity for Washington, DC, having lived here as a youth. He wrote poetry, novels, short stories, and non-fiction. The lecturer is Alan Lang, a member of the Board of Directors of the Capitol Hill Arts Workshop. Lang is the acting director for regional affairs in the Bureau of Legislative Affairs at the State Department. He has a lifelong passion for education and the arts, and a keen interest in Langston Hughes.
