Celebrating their debut album, A Thousand Years At Sea is the up-and-coming fusion of singer-songwriters Colin Cotter and Ethan Lewis, and pianist Neil Pearlman's distinctive and innovative musical sounds, bringing together elements of folk, jazz, celtic, and rock into a dynamic and stirring musical experience.
At the age of 19, local musician Colin Cotter has already shown himself to be a prolific composer and lyricist, writing 8 of the songs on ATYaS's debut album, Silver Shores Await. His soulful singing is complimented by some epic fiddle and guitar which have developed over the last 13 years of jamming and performing.
Ethan Lewis brings a lot of talent and experience to the table - a rich, organic singing style, tremendous compositional and lyrical depth and sincerity, and (at only 26 years old) over two decades of fiddle-playing experience.
Neil Pearlman has performed across the country with many of the best contemporary and traditional musicians of today. His innovative, genre-defying style combines a family background in Scottish traditional music with a depth of experience in jazz and contemporary music.
The second set this evening - a Barn Dance - will be played by the Midsummer Fiddle Band of Marin whose members are A Thousand Years At Sea joined by Bay Area locals Tuula and Marika Cotter(fiddle), and harmonica-wizard Winslow Yerxa.
