Friends, family, strangers - so many different relationships make up our daily lives. For its Nightwatch Dusk & Dawn series, the Cathedral of St. John the Divine welcomes psychotherapist Peter Azrak, who will host a weekend retreat to explore the ways our relationships offer insight into our lives and our spirituality on Friday, October 12 from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. and Saturday, October 13 from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. at the Cathedral of St. John the Divine located at 1047 Amsterdam Avenue (at 112th Street), Manhattan.
The retreat is designed for adults seeking time away from their busy lives for soul renewal and spiritual direction. It will focus on the way relationships can teach us to understand our spiritual selves, awakening us to the Divine within.
The Friday evening session, composed of prayer, meditation and chant, will explore how individuals view relationships and question how we perceive and interact with the many different people in our lives. The Saturday afternoon session will be filled with hands-on exercises in a workshop-style setting where participants will gain insight into the ways we choose to relate to the people in our lives and the connections we create and foster.
Peter Azrak is a psychotherapist in private practice. Having received Masters Degrees in Religious Studies and Social Work, his interest is the integration of psychotherapy with the path of spirituality. He offers workshops on themes reflecting the insights depth psychology offers to what has been called the “inner way,” connecting with the soul’s yearning for God.
Nightwatch Dusk & Dawn is an ongoing series of weekend retreats. Friday evening sessions are made up of meditation, chanting and a teaching from a spiritual leader. Saturday sessions are half-day retreats in a workshop style setting, led by a guest facilitator. Participants will have time to learn and practice the tools of meditation, chant and relaxation, as well as for group reflection, question and answer, and private prayer.
