Critic David Thomson has described Cary Grant as the best and most important actor in the history of the cinema. British-born, Grant had the knack of making acting look relaxed and easy, and he was equally adept at playing comedy, romance and intense drama, sometimes all in the same film. His work for Alfred Hitchcock runs the gamut from SUSPICION and NOTORIOUS to TO CATCH A THIEF and NORTH BY NORTHWEST, but he also did great work for Howard Hawks (ONLY ANGELS HAVE WINGS, BRINGING UP BABY, I WAS A MALE WAR BRIDE), George Cukor (THE PHILADELPHIA STORY, HOLIDAY), George Stevens (THE TALK OF THE TOWN, GUNGA DIN), Leo McCarey (THE AWFUL TRUTH, AN AFFAIR TO REMEMBER) and many others. Three of Grants features will be screened in full and there will be excerpts from many of his best films. Details of this event may be subject to change.
