Cartography of Ashes April 21, 2006

A collaboration between local artist Dolissa Medina and the San Francisco Fire Department, "Cartography of Ashes" is a free 30 minute outdoor film that will be projected onto an 8-story tall firefighter training tower.

A cinematic map through time and place, the experimental documentary take viewers through the path of the great conflagration that destroyed San Francisco in the aftermath of the quake. Using impressionistic imagery to recount stories of the fire's progression, this film highlights the firefighters and citizens who fought to save the city, and is narrated by members of the SFFD, who will reflect on the fire's legacy and disaster preparedness today.
