Carnaval AZ 2013 imports cultural flavor of Brazil
to Arizona’s largest Brazilian music and dance celebration March 23

Fourth annual toast to Brazilian culture and traditions to land at Phoenix’s Monarch Theatre

Phoenix, Ariz. --- Grupo Liberdade and Capoeira Brasil Arizona are again helming the largest annual
Brasilian Celebration in the state of Arizona on Saturday, March 23, 2013 at Monarch Theatre, voted best new nightclub of 2012 by Phoenix New Times, located at 122 E. Washington, Phoenix, Ariz.
Grupo Liberdade, the headliner of the show, will perform the hypnotic South American sounds of Samba,
Samba-Reggae, Côco, Ijexá, Axé and Maracatu while the colorful and ornately costumed dancers of SambAZ radiate the vitality and energy of authentic Brazilian culture.

Additional performers include Radio Brazil, led by singer/songwriter Marcos Martins from Sao Paulo,
Brazil, as well as the agile and graceful folkloric dancers of Capoeira Brasil Arizona and featured guest
Sambista Lucia Dargam, international performing artist, instructor and choreographer recognized as a top artist in Samba Dance.

Live art, multimedia displays, body painting by Mario Ink, Largo Photography’s photo booth, authentic
food served by Val’s Brazilian Catering, traditional Brazilian cocktails and drink specials, costume and
samba dance contests, giveaways and genuine Brazilian merchandise will round out this synergy of sounds, sights, movement, flavors and feeling.

Carnaval AZ has become an annual tradition in Phoenix, celebrating the world’s diverse musical cultures and connections while fostering curiosity, tolerance and understanding. Sao Paulo, Brazil-born Grupo Liberdade bandleader and Carnaval 2013 Creative Director Porangui McGrew sums up the event’s spirit
by saying, “We offer guests a bridge into the soul of Brazil where there is no audience; we all co-create
the performance in a conversation of the heart through music and dance,”
