Carmel, IN – The City of Carmel will be holding a Memorial Day Ceremony this Friday, May 25th at 9 a.m. at the Carmel Clay Veterans Memorial Plaza . Nearly 300 students from all three Carmel Clay middle schools will attend the program. The event is sponsored by the Carmel Clay Veterans Memorial Corporation (CCVMC) to honor veterans. The ceremony includes remarks by Mayor Jim Brainard and keynote speaker Brigadier General Arthur Johnson, USAF (Retired).
Teams of students from Carmel Middle School and Carmel High School will participate in a flag raising ceremony and place flowers at the Memorial to commemorate all military veterans. Also attending the ceremony will be members of the local American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) posts and CCVMC Board Members.
Monday, May 28th there will be services honoring the many veterans who have fought and died for our country at each of the four Carmel Cemeteries. The VFW Post 10003 of Carmel , VFW Post 10207 of Westfield , and the American Legion Post 155 of Carmel will be holding these services.
The first service begins at 9 a.m. at the Hamilton Memorial Park Cemetery, located between Westfield and Noblesville on State Road 32. There will be a service at 10 a.m. at the Little Eagle Creek Cemetery on Little Eagle Creek Avenue in Westfield . The third service will be held at Old Blue Cemetery at 11 a.m., located on the southeast corner of 106th Street and Keystone Avenue in Carmel . The last service will be held at noon at the Carmel Cemetery on North Range Line Road at 136th Street in Carmel . There will also be a special remembrance for Prisoners of War (POW) and those Missing in Action (MIA) at the VFW Post 10003 located on 34 First Avenue Northwest in Carmel , followed by a cookout beginning at 1 pm.
“We are fortunate to have so many soldiers in our past and our present who have fought bravely and sacrificed many things, including their lives, for our freedom. Memorial Day is a special day where we honor those who have served, and thank them for all they have given us. It is important, especially during this time of National conflict, to remember these brave men and woman and their families,” said Mayor Jim Brainard.
