CAREY WEST CELEBRATES GETS FRESH AT NATHAN PHILLIPS SQUARE

JULY 23, 2008 (Toronto, ON) -- Carey West performs as part of the Fresh Wednesday series at Nathan Phillips Square on August 20th. The show, free to the public, will include two sets starting at 12:00 noon.

A much-celebrated Toronto fixture with over a decade fronting bands such as The Millionaires, The Liquidaires and The Jeremiahs, West offers the next chapter of her story with “Travel Light,” released this past May.
A collaboration with multi-instrumentalist Jeff Wilson (Maza Meze, Sultans of String), the album reveals West's diverse musical influences, drawing on reggae, jazz, R&B, and folk to tell tales inspired by the streets of Toronto.

“Deck Song” was inspired by celebrations hosted in Carey’s west end neighbourhood during the World Cup, and features the sounds of marimba, melodica, bike horn and surdu. Together West and Wilson blend the influence of a multicultural city with the tradition of the Canadian singer songwriter.

Travel Light was awarded funding from the Ontario Arts Council and has received airplay on CBC Radio One and Two.

What people are saying about Travel Light:
