WHAT: Career and Recovery Resources, Inc. (CRR), a non-profit United Way agency that helps persons identify and overcome barriers to employment, will recognize Gerald B. and Anita Smith for their outstanding community leadership, advocacy and civic activities within the Houston community during the fourteenth annual Barrier Breaker Award Luncheon on Tuesday, June 29, 2010, at the Hyatt Regency Houston. Jerome Gray of KPRC Local 2 and Matt Musil of KHOU-TV will serve as MCs for the afternoon.
WHY: The Barrier Breaker Luncheon, hosted by CRR, is held annually to laud inspirational community leaders who have achieved success or have helped others to overcome barriers to success. Luncheon proceeds benefit the agency’s specialized training and employment programs for job seekers who often have multiple barriers to employment. Services include career counseling, job search preparation, intensive case management for job placement and retention, computer classes, and substance abuse treatment, prevention and education.
