Have you ever wanted to make a positive change in the world? Make a difference? Protect and conserve our beautiful oceans and all the life they support? This course is designed to give students an introduction on the variety and importance of various coastal resource and management strategies implemented to preserve these natural treasures. We will look at functions of marine parks and their effectiveness, discuss the necessity of fishing permits, size limits, seasons. Other topics include: coral reefs and mangroves management (one of Australia's greatest treasures) and aquaculture (everyone loves fresh prawns). Students will have an opportunity to review current management strategies and come up with innovative ideas to improve on current systems. The course is design to encourage critical and innovative thinking and introduce students to the basics of the management of coastal resources. This course is suitable for students in Years 3 to 4.
