The mobile phone is the most widely-used electronic device on the planet, with about a third of the world’s population having at least one. Globally, there are approximately 3.5 times as many mobile devices in use as there are PCs.

Mobile phones are rapidly changing away from purely voice communications into becoming a platform for a wide variety of data applications, from taking and sending pictures, to playing games, listening to music, watching video, and getting information from the Internet.
