Theatre of Yugen’s Kyogen-style interpretation of Voltaire's satirical masterpiece - CANDIDE, OR OPTIMISM - is a funny and outrageous interpretation about the folly of optimism, the hypocrisy of religion and the corrupting power of money. Written 250 years ago, CANDIDE, OR OPTIMISM is a witty, bantering tale with savage undertones. It is the story of a young man who, though pummeled and slapped in every direction by fate, clings desperately to the belief that he lives in "the best of all possible worlds."
