SUNNYVALE COUNCIL CANDIDATES TO SPEAK AT FINAL PRE-ELECTION FORUM

SUNNYVALE, Calif. – Candidates for Sunnyvale City Council seats will have an opportunity to rebut any negative campaigning aimed at them during an election-eve forum. The Candidates’ Response Night Forum will begin at 7 p.m., Monday, November 5, and will be open to the public in Sunnyvale City Council Chambers, 456 W. Olive Ave. The forum will also be broadcast live on KSUN-15, Sunnyvale’s government access cable television station.

Sunnyvale’s City Council established the City-sponsored candidate forum as a new process this year. The first forum was October 2, and the adopted plan included the possibility of a final night opportunity for candidates to rebut campaign statements. Attorney Patti White, who was identified by Council as the program moderator, announced yesterday (October 15) that a Candidates’ Response Night Forum will be held. The format, which does not allow for questions from the audience, will include a three-minute response by each candidate. After each candidate has spoken, each will have an opportunity to make a two-minute final comment.

The forum is expected to last about 45 minutes. The City also announced that both the October 2 forum and the Candidates’ Response Night Forum will be rebroadcast on KSUN-15 beginning at 9 a.m. on Election Day, Tuesday, November 6.

A second component of Council’s initiative to better educate voters in the community, a special Campaign Ethics Guide, was distributed with the City’s fall edition of Quarterly Report. Additional copies of the guide are available without charge at City Hall, the Library and the Community and Senior Centers. An online version can be downloaded from the City’s Web site at Ethics.inSunnyvale.com.
