Theater Arts at the California Institute of Technology (TACIT) presents Vaclav Havel’s The Memorandum. Set in a late 1960s soviet style bureaucracy, the play follows Managing Director Josef Gross, as he attempts to translate an incomprehensible memo written in Ptydepe, a new language introduced by the authorities to streamline communication. In his efforts to decipher the memo, we enter into an absurdist nightmare that is a cross between Steve Carell in the Office couched in the Doublespeak of George Orwell.
The show is directed by Brian Brophy, and the cast is comprised of Caltech undergraduate, graduate students, and Caltech staff.
Performances take place in Dabney Lounge on Caltech’s campus on Friday, November 11 at 8:30 pm, Saturday, November 12 at 8pm, Sunday, November 13 at 2:30pm, Friday, November 18 at 8:30 pm, Saturday, November 19 at 8:00 pm, and Sunday, November 20 at 2:30 pm.
