Thousands of volunteers are still needed to revitalize 70 parks, gardens, playgrounds, community centers, and schools across the five boroughs. Volunteers will work on a variety of green projects including gardening, removing winter debris, painting fences, planting flowers, and more. For the first time, volunteers will also paint colorful murals on Jersey barriers at several sites throughout the city. New York Cares urgently needs 2,000 more volunteers to sign-up so that it can help every site accepted into this year’s program. These additional caring New Yorkers will bring the total number of volunteers to 5,000 people.

Team registration has been extended until March 31, 2010, and individuals can sign up until April 23, 2010. New Yorkers can register at www.handsonnewyorkday.org, with a registration fee of $20 per person. The website provides complete information about the day including how to participate as an individual or part of a team, as well as information on making donations in honor of a team or volunteer.
