This exhibition displays calligraphic works by master artists that have won the Newberry Library Purchase Prize, an annual award that allows the Library to acquire new, creative works in calligraphy and the letter arts. All of the winners are displayed at once, for the first time, along with related notes, sketches, studies, and other materials. Established in 1995 by an anonymous donor, and now funded as well by the Chicago Calligraphy Collective, the Purchase Prize honors work of technical distinction and creative energy.
