Gamers on a mission to play the much-anticipated game "Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2" can head to a special midnight release party at BLOCKBUSTER on Monday, Nov. 9. The BLOCKBUSTER store at 3097 Alamo Drive in Vacaville will host the event featuring a pre-release game demo and tournament, plus the chance to be among the first to rent, purchase or possibly win the game when it is released at 12:01 a.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 10. Admission is free and open to the public, but the contests and tournament are only for those 18 and older. "Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2" game software (rated Mature 17+) will be available for rent or purchase on a first-come, first-served basis, while supplies last.
The event will also feature the opportunity to help real-life heroes - U.S. troops. Activities at the event include pizza slice sale to benefit the Travis Airport USO. Members of the Miss Vacaville Court will be on hand to help with the collection of used and new video games, along the presentation of two gaming systems and a Blu-ray player from Blockbuster to the Travis Air Force Base in honor of Military Family Month. Also, event-goers are invited to donate old cell phones, which will be collected by members of the Miss Vacaville Court for recycling by the non-profit Cell Phones for Soldiers, which gives free calling cards to troops far from home. The first 50 donors will receive a free rental card from Blockbuster.
The nearby Baskin & Robbins is staying open until midnight and offering people with military ID a 20% discount or $1 off all cappuccino drinks.
