The North Carolina Songwriters Co-op has launched it's 11th Annual Songwriting Competition. Songwriters, Bands and Musicians are able to enter a contest that is aimed at independent songwriters who have received less than $10,000 in royalties. Songs are to be judged on originality, lyrics, melody and composition. Entries are limited to the first 250 submissions of two songs each.
Dwight Sullivan, coordinator for the organization stated that the NCSC is a non-profit group of songwriters supporting songwriters and the art of songwriting. We open our contest to many genres of music to give everyone an opportunity.
Returning sponsors include Sam Ash Music, Oasis CD, Taxi, GHS Strings, Levys Leathers, the Curran Foundation, The Music Loft of Carrboro, Sonicbids, Batson Group Marketing and PR and Guild Master Graphics. A special package deal between NCSC and Sonicbids includes a six-month subscription to Sonicbids as well as membership in NCSC with each contest entry.
New sponsors include Awesome Webs, The Beat Magazine, Coffeehouse Tour, GoGirls Music, and the Gulf Rim Cafe. By becoming a sponsor, businesses, organizations and individuals align themselves with a statewide cooperative with a history and reputation for producing a quality contest.
This year the board members decided to forgo the live performance pre-requisite and offer cash awards as well as prizes to the three top winners and five finalists. "Everyone is feeling the hit of high gas prices. Many touring musicians have had to cancel shows.
