The California Society of Printmakers is the oldest continuously operating printmaking society in the United States. Founded in 1912 as the California Society of Etchers, its founding reflected a surge of printmaking activity in the West during the early part of the century. In 1968 the California Society of Etchers merged with the Bay Area Printmakers to form the present California Society of Printmakers. The Triton Museum of Art is pleased to celebrate the 100th anniversary of this prestigious organization with an exhibition of works by notable artists from its ranks.
