California Book Award-winner Alice LaPlante at Litquake's Epicenter June 26, 2012

Alice LaPlante in conversation with Sarah Lapido Manyika

Alice LaPlante's novel, "Turn of Mind," is already one of the most talked about books of 2012. This year's winner of the California Book Award for first fiction, the book tells the story of a surgeon in the throes of Alzheimer's who may or may not be responsible for her best friend's death. It's been called "remarkably poignant," "pitch-perfect," and "technically daring." The novel manages the trick of being simultaneously a great read and a finely crafted novel. Conversation followed by a book signing.

Alice LaPlante teaches creative writing at San Francisco State University and Stanford University, where she is a former Wallace Stegner Fellow. She is author of five books, including her new novel, "Turn of Mind," which became a New York Times, NPR, and American Independent Booksellers Association bestseller within a month of release.

Sarah Ladipo Manyika was raised in Nigeria and has lived in Kenya, France, and England. She is the author of "In Dependence" (Legend Press, 2008) and Editor of "Pulsations, The Journal of New African Writing." She currently lives in California where she teaches at San Francisco State University. She is a Hedgebrook alum and serves on the Board of the Museum of the African Diaspora.
