Califia Open Community Design Summit May 20, 2006

Immediate Summit Objective: Unite the Bay Area community in a concrete vision of Califia Bay Area Eco-City?s who, what, where, why, when, and how. The initial stage of this project will be rooted in convergence and consensus building: to rally the Bay Area green community together in an open discussion oriented towards the development of a specific design plan and strategy for developing Califia as our city?s sustainable epicenter. Integral to this experience, we are fascinated to see how a Bay Area progressive coalition can form to catalyze their best ideas and approaches in this project, drafting a reproducible process model for a community-based whole systems approach to sustainable ecological development.

Anticipated Outcomes: When the summit ends we hope to have reached consensus on a concrete vision statement that outlines:
1. Design Spec: Various shared concepts in sustainable community design to be considered in the development of a project such as Califia;
2. Strategic plan: Organization of tasks for implementation of the project and including such phases as: a) initial R&D, b) prototyping, c) full implementation/critical mass, d) replication;
3. Timeline of phased goals from now until 2015.
