Calgary Peace Pole Unveiling Celebration September 20, 2009

The Calgary Peace Pole Community invites you to celebrate the International Day of Peace by attending the unveiling of the Calgary Peace Pole and plaza. On Sunday, September 20, join the peace walk on Prince's Island starting near the bridge to Eau Claire Market at 1:30pm, or come straight to the site, 2nd Ave and 8th St SW, at 2pm for the celebration: inauguration, performances by local artists, family barbecue, and children's activities. There are 250,000 peace poles in the world, all proclaiming 'May Peace Prevail On Earth.' Calgary's peace pole, designed by Marc Boutin Architecture, is unique. All welcome to the September 20 celebrations!.

WHEN: Sunday September 20th 2009, 1:30-2pm Peace Walk
2-4pm Celebration at the Peace Pole

WHERE: Walk begins at Prince's Island at Eau Claire Market bridge. The Peace Pole is located in Calgary's Peace Park - West Eau Claire 8th St & 2nd Ave. SW

WHY: The Calgary Peace Pole will serve as a constant reminder to all, of the importance of working together to maintain a society free from war and violent conflict, as stated in the inscribed message "May Peace Prevail on Earth." As a meeting place and piece of public art, the easily accessed Calgary Peace Pole will bring much enjoyment to the public.
