On the last Friday of every month, cyclists around the world gather to ride the streets together to assert the rights of non-automotive traffic to use the streets.
In Calgary, we meet at Eau Claire (near the Olympic arches and the YMCA). The rides usually leave no later than 6pm, and take a generally random route (determined by the riders) through downtown and sometimes into other inner-city communities.

There has been some media interest in Critical Mass this week. The free street paper “24 Hours” is supposed to be running a story on the day of the ride — that will hopefully attract some more participants.
This is turning into a great opportunity to promote bicycles and other sustainable transportation as issues for the municipal election in October. Please make an extra effort to come out to this month’s ride — it’s looking to be both an extra-important and an extra-fun ride.

A pile of folks have signed up for this on the Facebook event listing, so we might have a pretty decent turnout this month.
