Main Street Murphys
Complimentary wine tastings are the norm in Calaveras County, California. Rubbing elbows and schmoozing with the winemakers are common. In fact, the owners love to talk about their wines so much, that you go away feeling like part of the family. Taking a stroll down Main St. in Murphys will likely result in visiting at least 12 tasting rooms and more on the side roads. By the time you get to the end of the road, tourists will have made friends with one another and shared business cards with all their tasting mates.
Each tasting room in Murphys reflects the personality of the winemakers, and are as different as their wines are. Some are set up in rustic barns. Others are like walking into rich living rooms with custom granite bars and plush chairs. And then there's the weird and off-beat rooms. The restaurants are inviting and top-notch with excellent cuisine. Each one has a unique menu and expertly pairs every course with these local wines.
You will enjoy a personal tour of Ironstone Vineyards and get a chance to sample their wines. After Ironstone, you'll have a couple of hours to roam Main Street on your own.
