3 Expats teaching at garden International School in Kuala Lumpur. James played Bass in the School Staff band and Gary played guitar but fills in on drums when the usual drummer was absent. The idea was banded about to start a band with their own songs. Tom arrived on the scene and during a camping trip to the jungles of Malaysia, let slip that he played drums. Tom was roped in, songs were written, rehearsals attended and a gig booked.

After much boozing and racking of brains, By Numbers was born.
