Robert M. Price, the former CEO and chairman of Control Data Corp., will keynote a free business breakfast hosted by the University of New Mexico's Anderson Schools of Management and KKOB-AM, 770 on March 31.
Control Data, a pioneering super-computer firm formed in 1957, grew to have 45,000 employees and revenues of more than $1 billion and was a leader in the field of hard drive manufacturing. Seymour Cray, who designed one of CDC's first computers, ultimately formed Cray Research in 1973, taking part of CDC along. What was left of Control Data was acquired in September 1997 by the investment firm of Welsh, Carson, Anderson & Stowe and later sold to Syntegra Inc. of Minnesota, a division of BT Group (British Telecommunications) (NYSE: BT).
Price is the author of a book entitled "The Eye for Innovation: Recognizing Possibilities and Managing the Creative Enterprise," and will speak about his conviction that businesses must foster innovation in order to stay ahead.
The Business Breakfast will begin at 7:30 a.m. in the UNM Student Union Building on the main campus in Albuquerque. Admission is free, but reservations are required. Call 767-6795 to make a reservation.
