“Gifting It, A Burning Embrace of Gift Economy” is filmmaker Renea Roberts’ documentary on the gift economy culture that lives at the heart of Burning Man, the 17-year-old celebration of art and creativity that draws 50,000 people to the Nevada desert for the week leading up to Labor Day. This thriving experimental community creates itself anew each year, revealing a unique glimpse into the power of the gift. Radical self-reliance and radical self-expression partner with a gift economy ethic resulting in a community of space and time unlike anything else. Roberts’ film explores the unique society that has evolved around the concept of gift-giving and the relation of the gift economy to the individual's connection with the community. “Gifting It” includes interviews with Burning Man co-founder Larry Harvey, Lewis Hyde, author of “Gift: Imagination and the Erotic Life of Property”, and participants, who talk about how the event has, in many cases, changed their lives." - "Gifting It" website. $5 donation to the Philosophical Library Contact Dan at 858-692-5552 for questions.
